About this version of Treasure Island
Treasure Island is one of the greatest adventure stories but is a difficult text for younger readers and/or language learners. My retelling stays close to the spirit of the original can be a bridge to the longer version.This graded text has been shortened and simplified by vocabulary, grammar and readability.
- shorter paragraphs and sentences
- fewer unfamiliar words (particularly regarding nautical vocabulary)
- a focus on the main narrative line & key characters
- less emphasis on physical description of weather, island etc
- omission of the Mr Arrow episode
- illustrations and contextual clues.

I write graded reading and listening materials for English language learners. These include original stories like Love by Design and simplified versions of classics including Washington Square by Henry James & Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
